DOAN S EXTRA STRENGTH IS USED FOR :
Doan S Extra Strength is an anti-inflammatory agent used to relieve pain, reduce swelling (inflammation) of arthritis and reduce fever.
USING DOAN S EXTRA STRENGTH :
Take Doan S Extra Strength by mouth with food or a full glass of milk or water (8oz. or 240 ml) as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. If you are taking Doan S Extra Strength for pain or fever and there is no improvement within 5 days, stop taking Doan S Extra Strength and consult your doctor or pharmacist.
SIDE EFFECTS OF DOAN S EXTRA STRENGTH :
Heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and headache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: stomach pain, ringing in the ears, changes in your hearing. If you notice any of the following unlikely but very serious side effects, stop taking Doan S Extra Strength and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: bloody or black stools, coffee-ground vomit, persistent stomach/abdominal pain. An allergic reaction to Doan S Extra Strength is unlikely but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice any other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS WHILE TAKING DOAN S EXTRA STRENGTH :
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney or liver disease, stomach/intestinal ulcers, any allergies (especially to aspirin). Doan S Extra Strength may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and Doan S Extra Strength may increase your risk for stomach bleeding. Caution is advised when using Doan S Extra Strength in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Doan S Extra Strength. Children and teenagers should not take Doan S Extra Strength if they have chicken pox, influenza, or any undiagnosed illness without first consulting a doctor about Reye s syndrome, a rare but serious illness. Doan S Extra Strength should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Magnesium salicylate is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
MEDICATION INTERACTIONS TAKING DOAN S EXTRA STRENGTH :
Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, phenylbutazone, blood thinners (e.g., warfarin, heparin), aspirin, other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen), ACE inhibitors (e.g., captopril, enalapril), acetazolamide, oral diabetic medicine (e.g., chlorpropamide, glyburide, tolbutamide), corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), methotrexate, anti-seizure medication (e.g., phenytoin, valproic acid), tetracycline antibiotics (e.g., doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline). Check the labels on all your medicines because they may contain aspirin or aspirin-like NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen). Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products. Doan S Extra Strength may interfere with certain laboratory tests. Inform laboratory personnel that you are taking Doan S Extra Strength. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
IF YOU OVERDOSE WITH DOAN S EXTRA STRENGTH :
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe stomach pain, severe vomiting, change in amount of urine, rapid and shallow breathing.
IF YOU MISS A DOSE WITH DOAN S EXTRA STRENGTH :
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
HOW TO STORE DOAN S EXTRA STRENGTH :
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
