Pen-Vee K / Penicillin Vk-Oral Solid

ALTERNATE NAMES FOR PEN-VEE K :

Veetids 500, Beepen-Vk, Penicillin V Potassium

PEN-VEE K IS USED FOR :

Penicillins are antibiotics used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections.

USING PEN-VEE K :

Pen-Vee K may be taken without regard to meals. However, absorption is best if medication is taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 to 3 hours after meals). Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do this by taking the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night. Continue to take Pen-Vee K until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.

SIDE EFFECTS OF PEN-VEE K :

Pen-Vee K may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if an allergic reaction occurs while taking Pen-Vee K. Symptoms include: difficulty breathing, skin rash, hives, itching. Use of Pen-Vee K for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.g., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS WHILE TAKING PEN-VEE K :

Tell your doctor if you have any: other illnesses, allergies (especially to penicillin or other antibiotics). Pen-Vee K should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of Pen-Vee K are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

MEDICATION INTERACTIONS TAKING PEN-VEE K :

Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of tetracycline. Pen-Vee K may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

IF YOU OVERDOSE WITH PEN-VEE K :

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

IF YOU MISS A DOSE WITH PEN-VEE K :

If you should miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double-up the dose.

HOW TO STORE PEN-VEE K :

Store medication at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
